MY
PHOTO DIARY #2 28th FEBRUARY 2010
Now having over 3,200 photos
on file and online, through my pages, Facebook, and Woophy, I’m beginning to
find photography taking a more central position in my life. Editing images from
a photoshoot at the very Gothic Hellfire Club,
I found there was suffiecent pattern to create a 26 picture
horror-photo-story, Guests, which you can read in its entirety for free at http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=198214&id=731547393&l=e03752e864
I have story-boarded out
ideas for photo-stories on certain themes but what was interesting here was
having the photos first, before thinking up the story. Photography is changing my whole thinking
process.
Though I still take photos
of buildings, statues, pub signs, woodlands, etc, it is my people images that
are gaining me the most credit and attention. A few people are asking for me to
take their photos and when seen in public with my camera, the people captured
on film become very eager to see the results, e-mailing me for info on when
they’ll be available.
Other photographers are
proving very helpful, and it’s becoming useful to read and assess the images
taken by others. My collection of
photography book reading is growing. I look at media photos closely, and when I
see anyone pointing a camera or phone with a camera, I’m following the line of
where it points to see if I can picture the image they might be capturing.
My biggest step forward is
joining Model Mayhem, a
model and photography website and forum. This gives me strong opportunity to interact with other
photographers and models and could possibly lead to some paid work. The future
looks interesting, and I’ll preserve as much of it as possible in pictures.
Many thanks to model and photographer, Lethal Gem for assisting me in preparing
and editing my MM profile
page.
An important phrase created
through Model Mayhem is that of GWC (Guy With Camera). This refers to men who
claim to be photographers in order to sweet talk or manipulate women into
taking clothes off and posing for them, or who take lots of candid shots of
unsuspecting passing girls to share with leery, lusty friends. Having slipped into model photography
through modelling and sharing cabaret space with the models I interact with
I’ve never fallen into such behaviour and it’s sad to see many men looking at
images of models with only lust as their way of deciding if they like the
images or not. Some people just need to grow up.
With photos of buildings, I include many churches, though I’m an ardent atheist. The architecture can often be wonderful, and it saddens me that many churches are closed or only open their doors during services to avoid vandalism. That makes it near impossible to get photos of many great church interiors. I’m always thrilled when churches are open and welcoming to photographers.
